Egypt Travel: Climate
Egypt’s climate is easy to summarize – Hot and dry. This holds for most of the country for most of the year, with the exception of the winter months of December, January, February, which can be quite cold in the north.
Average temperatures range from 20°C (68°F) on the Mediterranean coast to 26°C (80°F) in Aswan. Maximum temperatures for the same places can get up to 31°C (88°F) and 50°C (122°F) respectively.
At night in winter the temperature sometimes plummets to as low as 8°C in Cairo and along the Mediterranean coast.
Egypt Travel: Local Customs
Egypt is primarily a Muslim country and you should dress with respect for the local customs especially in the Western Desert. Brief shorts or skirts should be avoided in the towns and you should cover your head when entering a mosque.
In early summer and autumn, natural fibre clothing is most comfortable. In summer, only pure cotton clothing is recommended.
From December through March it can get quite cool, so a jacket, warm pullover and scarf may be required. In the delta area from Cairo to the Mediterranean coast it can be very cold, wet and windy in the winter months (Dec-Feb) so you will require a raincoat.
A sunhat and sunscreen are recommended for the whole country throughout the year.
